Serena was my kick-back, my money pot, and my fallback plan. She was supposed to be my get-right bitch for the tax season. I called her my girl, but that was only because she was at the top of the list now. Actually, she was just one of a few, but nobody had more drive and money than her. That’s why she was in first position, and I had fucked that up.
I raced to the house, thinking of all my hard work laying in the street.
Now I would have an open spot on the roster for the winter.
More pictures of my equipment in the snow only made me madder. I sped through stop signs and ran red lights, trying to get to her. These pictures of my equipment outside getting wet from the snow made my blood boil. All my hard work, all the money I’d spent on that equipment... all of it was bouncing around my head. I sped home and saw the police lights as soon as I turned onto the street.
Serena’s car was parked in the middle of the yard, and she looked like a fire-breathing dragon, throwing my shit on the lawn right in the snow.
“What the fuck?” I screamed, running towards her until the cops pulled me back.
She kept throwing shit: my speakers, mic, CDs, all laying in the yard like a garage sale.
“Get all your shit out of my house. You fucked my cousin.”
The cops held me back, but I knew they wanted to laugh.
“In my fucking momma’s house, then you leave like a little bitch.” Her momma and step-dad were there, too, on the porch and glaring at me like I was a monster.
“Shit, she came on to me, man. I was in the bathroom minding my own fucking business.” I struggled to get free as a basket of my clothes fell to the ground.
“Oh, so you just slipped your dick in by mistake?” I heard somebody laugh behind me, but this shit wasn’t funny.
“So, ya’ll gonna let her destroy my shit?” I asked the cops.
“Sir, just get everything in your vehicle and please leave.” One of the cops tried holding back his laugh. “Ma’am. Please go back inside until we come get you.”
“Fuck you, Landis. You’ll never find another bitch like me.” She screamed, ignoring the cops.
Finally, her momma dragged her into the house and her step-daddy stayed outside for a second, watching me. Stan was a good dude, but if it was between me and his step-daughter, I didn’t have shit coming. Wasn’t shit I could say now.
She was right, that I wouldn’t find another bitch like her. Serena had three kids and always dropped three thousand dollars on me at tax time. That was the money I was gonna use to get my mix tape out in the streets. It was a little late for me to find somebody like that.
